I love Iowa. I was born here. I moved back here after school. I married an Iowa farmer. Every February I beg that farmer to move South, but now it's spring! It's a new season. It's planting season. Do you know Iowa's soil is some of the richest, most productive in the world? Do you know about 87% of Iowa's land is used for agriculture? Do you know Iowa ranks first in the nation in corn and soybean production? Do you know farmer wives often find corn and soybeans in their washing machines? :)
I've observed how much preparation goes into planting season. Equipment must be in good working order. Extra parts must be on hand. Seed and chemicals are purchased and waiting. Waiting for what? For the day in April when the weather and soil conditions are just perfect to start planting. When planting season hits, farmers are ready.
Christians are called to be ready as well. Ready to preach the Word. 2 Timothy 4:2 tells us, "Preach the Word; be instant in season, out of season." No matter what season it is; be ready to preach. When you're teaching Sunday School and when you're at a t-ball game.
I recently visited a school I greatly admire, New Hope Academy in Franklin, TN. Their Headmaster taught a sharing tool I found interesting. S.A.R. = Situation, Action, Result. Think of a situation you've been in recently. Think of the action you took and the final result. Here's mine; I was recently in a situation where I could have started gossiping and speaking ill of others. Let me tell you, my flesh was itching for an opportunity to prove my point on a matter...by putting someone else down. Does your spirit ever battle your flesh? Mine was and it was neck and neck for awhile. Finally, the action I took was to keep my mouth shut. The result? Well, I felt victorious that my spirit could rule over my flesh. Plus, I obeyed the Word which tells us to only speak what is edifying to and about others! Maybe your S.A.R. is a testimony of healing, overcoming a sin you've battled or choosing peace over worry.
Think of your own S.A.R. Think about it on a daily or weekly basis and let it help you be ready in any season to share the Word with others!
